Tomorrow report cards will be sent home. I am putting a few extra pieces of information in the report card envelope for you.
One of the papers you will find is the reading lexile information. This information lists your child's fall lexile score as well as the score they just received from the winter AIMSWEB reading test. I am happy to announce that EVERY Reading Red Sox levile level increased! Congratulations readers!
The next section of papers you will find are your child's reading counts scores. The first set is dated 09/06/17 - 11/05/17 (quarter 1) and the next set is dated 11/06/17 - 01/23/18 (quarter 2). I know that quarter two goes by quickly with Thanksgiving, Christmas and break included, but CONGRATULATIONS to those students who still managed to increase their total number of words read from quarter 1 to quarter 2 - This is awesome! If the total decreased, no need to worry - We are REALLY pushing for some BIG numbers in QUARTER 3. Of course, the next few months we have announced our reading challenge for the whole school! In the process, we have set our reading goal to be 3,750,000 for the next two months! WOW! I believe we can do it while at the same time raising our individual totals!
(In January, we challenged another class and won! We won by over one million words! In January - our reading total for the class = 1,305,352 words. AWESOME!)
The third piece of paper explains how the numbers are assigned on the report card. If you have any questions with report card scores after you receive the report card, feel free to call me. I have met with a few parents regarding their child's AIMSWEB scores, so if you are still interested in seeing them, please give me a call - we can set up a time and talk about any of the above.
Beginning Monday, I will be sending home 5 multiplication problems a night for homework. The students need to master this skill, and many of them have, but practice makes perfect. If the homework isn't brought in the next morning, I am willing to skip lunch and/or recess in order to help your child complete it. I am hoping for 100% participation and investment with this because 1. it is great practice and 2. practice makes perfect! This shouldn't last for too long, depending how quickly I see the students master this skill.
Tomorrow is ski day AND PATRIOTS DAY! This announcement is found in the Thursday notices, but I forgot to mention it on our agenda. So if you have any Patriots gear that your child would like to wear to school - Go For It!
