I hope you all received the report cards on Friday. Please sign and send back the report card envelope as soon as possible.
This week I am hoping for FIVE uninterrupted days of school! The students have plenty to catch up on. In writing, we will be completing our book reviews and starting our persuasive essays. This is always one of my favorite writing projects to complete with the students. Talk to your son/daughter about what he/she would like to see changed in our school, the community, or the world! Each student will have an opportunity for his/her voice to be heard. We will be creating persuasive letters and sending them to the people who may be able to help make the change we are requesting. In the past I have had letters written to the N.H.S.P.C.A., the State House in Concord, Dodge's Store, and the town of New Boston. Before we begin our writing, the class will have a brainstorm session in order to get our wheels spinning.
We will NOT have spelling and grammar this week. We have finished all of Unit 3 spelling and grammar lessons, so we will be spending this final week in Unit 3 covering our reading and our writing assignments.
We are well into our unit 5 math lessons, and we are learning how to turn improper fractions into mixed numbers (and vice versa), as well as adding fractions, mixed numbers, and continuing to turn fractions into decimals. The students will be bringing home the first math home journal that we worked on in quarters 1 and 2. This journal can stay home, as we have jumped right into the second one last week.
In science, we will be finishing up our unit on the human body. This week we will be focusing on how our brain makes our body work. Once we wrap up our last topic on the human body, we will move right into social studies and begin our next project.
We will be researching our state and national government, discovering what it means to be a citizen, learning about why volunteering is essential, learning about our state Governor, and finding out why we pay taxes. The culmination activity for this project is a power point presentation given by group members on each subject. I will send out an invitation for any parents/guardians who would like to come learn about our wonderful local, state, and national government when we are ready to present!
That is all for now - I must get go get prepped for THE SUPERBOWL! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
