I wanted to send out my weekend letter a little early this week due to a couple of important events we have in the making.
First, our class is going to be presenting a school wide reading challenge and I need to video tape our "movie". I have asked the students to decide which character they would like to be (FROM ANY BOOK THEY HAVE READ). Once they decide on the character, please have them put together a costume from items/clothing that you ALREADY have at home. This project shouldn't cost any money or force you to go looking for last minute expensive props! Some students are dressing up as school age kids (for example: Greg from Diary of a Wimpy Kid), so we will just create name tags for these characters. The goal for this weekend is for your child to decide on a character and BRING the costume in on Tuesday! If you have any questions please send me an e-mail.
We are preparing for our unit 4 AND cumulative math tests. Yesterday we completed the cumulative study guide together in class and today we corrected and completed the first version of the unit 4 study guide. Both of these study guides should be in your child's binder and both include examples of questions your son/daughter will see on both tests. We will still be completing Unit 4 next week, so I don't foresee giving the test until Tuesday, January 23rd. Next week look for more versions of study guides to come home. I will notify you on each day they are completed and placed in binders. Ask your child to review these problems with you and have him/her highlight any problems that are hard to explain or "show how they know". In this way, we are asking our children to be responsible for their learning and recognizing what skills they need more practice with.
We have just begun our book reviews in writing. Next week the How-To literary works of art will be hanging outside of Ms. Brown's room on our "bulletin board". I hope you enjoy them! Also, if you are in the school anytime soon be sure to look in the long hallway (by Mrs. Grenier's room) for our ski N.H. posters AND look in the glass case for our creative animals. Not all of the animals are displayed in the glass case. I told the students that if they created a powerpoint and wanted their picture to be displayed they needed to come see me so we could print it up together. This opportunity is available for the next week or so.
We have almost all the field trip notices signed and passed in for our field trip on January 22nd. Thank you! Next week will be yet another busy one as it is another shortened week. Don't forget, no school on Monday :(
Enjoy your holiday weekend and GO PATRIOTS!!!
